What is "Healing Energy Work" and How do I Know I Need it?



What is "Energy Healing"?

Energy healing includes both contact healing, which involves light touch on or a few inches above the body, or distance healing, which involves focused intention from a remote location, and has a variety of applications not limited to spiritual healing, Therapeutic Touch, Healing Touch and Reiki.


What You'll Experience in a Healing Session

Clients exhibit a variety of responses to Healing Touch therapy. While some may feel no sensation, others report experiencing energy movement, profound relaxation, a sense of support and care, or even visual imagery and colors. Additionally, some may undergo emotional releases, such as tears, or gain insights into particular aspects of their lives.

During a Healing Touch session, you remain fully clothed and usually lie down or sit in a chair. The sessions can range from 30 to 90 minutes for a full body treatment or 30 to 60 minutes for a localized treatment of a specific injury.


Healing Touch sessions have a standard structure:

Intake

The practitioner will start by asking about your symptoms and expectations for the session.

 

Centering (Healer Preparation) 

The practitioner begins by becoming focused and fully present to engage with the client. The practitioner connects with their internal self, concentrating on a place of silence and inner stability while eliminating all distractions. They may also connect with a higher power or universal life energy. This centering process is similar to entering a meditative state.

 

Attuning to the Patient

Centering is followed by "attuning," or setting the intention for you, the patient's, highest good.

 

Treatment

The practitioner scans the energy field by passing a hand gently above the surface of the body, noting any sensations or imbalances. These imbalances may be detected as heat, cold, tingling, pressure, heaviness, or lightness. The practitioner then selects an appropriate Healing Touch technique, which may involve light physical touch or sweeping hand motions above the body. The session concludes with another assessment of the energy field through a hand scan to evaluate any changes in the sensations or imbalances observed during the initial assessment.

 

Grounding

At the end of the Healing Touch session, the practitioner will help you return to an alert state through a process called "grounding".

 

Evaluation, Feedback, and Treatment Plan Development

At the conclusion of the session, the practitioner will request your feedback and descriptions of any sensations or experiences you had during the session. You will then collaborate with the practitioner to develop a self-care plan. This plan may include scheduling another session, if appropriate, as well as self-care techniques and strategies for you to use.


How Do I Know I Need This?

Your thoughts, emotions, body, and memories all generate energy that emanates from you, forming your personal energy field. This subtle field encircles your physical body and reacts to every experience you encounter, altering based on your thoughts, feelings, and lifestyle.

When the energy field flows unobstructed, you feel vibrant, grounded, and connected. Conversely, when it is blocked, fragmented, or imbalanced, life can appear disjointed. Below are seven indicators that your energy field may require healing and suggested actions to address them.

Persistent Fatigue Despite Adequate Rest

Lingering fatigue despite sufficient sleep may indicate energetic depletion, often resulting from harboring emotions or attachments that are not yours. Over-extension of your energy field can leave you susceptible to external influences.

Begin with mindful breathing. Inhale deeply into your abdomen, then exhale fully. Use your breath as an anchor to restore vitality and reclaim your energy.

Recurrent Patterns in Life

Repeated challenges in relationships, finances, or health may signify an imprint in your energy field attracting these experiences. These patterns serve not as punishments but as invitations for healing.

Feeling Stuck or Unmotivated

Stagnant energy often leads to feelings of uninspiration or heaviness, disconnecting you from creativity, dreams, or purpose.

Emotional Reactivity or Overwhelm

While emotional sensitivity is a valuable trait, overwhelming reactions to minor events may suggest unresolved emotions seeking attention due to thin energetic boundaries.

Difficulty Sleeping or Achieving Deep Rest

A restless mind or body at night might indicate undischarged energy from the day or residual energy from other individuals.

Disconnect from Intuition

A clouded energy field can obscure inner guidance, making decision-making challenging and dampening instinctual trust.

Lack of Presence in Daily Life

Experiencing an entire day feeling disconnected indicates potential fragmentation within the energy field, possibly due to mental fixation on the past or future anxieties.
